Guy Bates

Once upon a time—or maybe twice—there was a band of rock and roller types here in New York. They were a lovable bunch, three Brits and two Yanks, and made music together and had great

fun for a few years in the go-go Nineties.

They went to a makeshift studio on the Lower

East Side once, and made a five-song EP—the legendary Shake Your Lettuce—and by the begin-

ning of 1998 had secured some more tape and

time in a better studio or two, and were ready to

do it again. These sessions yielded everyone’s favorite, “Top of the World,” and another

“world” number, this one called “World

Summer.” [For the whole story and illustrations, click here]
